The short answer to this question is…Yes, you should advertise your business on Twitter. The follow up answer is, “As long as you do it properly”. The one thing that I see a lot of people doing is creating a twitter account, getting some friends and start spamming their links every 5 – 10 minutes.
That is the WORST thing that you can do. Let me ask you the same question in a different way…If you were invited to a party by someone, would you start pitching your online business to everyone your meet as soon as you walk in the door? Of course you wouldn’t. It would turn people off, and make them want to avoid you at all cost. You need to think of social media websites (i.e. – Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc) as a bunch of parties. When you come to these parties, you need to establish some kind of relationship with these people. You start out having small talk with them…talk about your family and friends, the weather, etc.
Eventually, the question that you are waiting for will come up…What do you do for a living, or how do you earn an income? This is when you have an opening to talk about your opportunity. You still don’t want to hammer them over the head about your business, just hit some of the highlights of what you do and how it gives you the freedom to do a lot of things that you normally wouldn’t be able to do.
By establishing a relationship with people first will help your business out in the long run. Just remember one thing…People normally will only buy from those who they know, like and trust. How can you fill any of those requirements unless you first develop a relationship with the people you meet?
When you are ready to use Twitter for your business, I would recommend a very good training course on what to do on Twitter to help monetize your relationships. It’s called Twitter Success, and it has helped many people by teaching the correct way to use Twitter for your business. Click on the image below to find out more…
